It was an extremely fashionable night in Brooklyn, as soon-to-be-pro college basketball stars descended upon the Brooklyn Academy of Music of the 2024 WNBA Draft.
To say that women’s basketball is in the midst of a cultural boom would be a vast understatement. Though trailblazers like Cynthia Cooper, Lisa Leslie, and Sheryl Swoopes spent years elevating the sport—paving the way for more recent standout players such as Maya Moore, Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi—interest in women’s hoops, particularly at the collegiate level, has exploded over the past year. As an Iowa Hawkeye, Caitlin Clark became the the NCAA Division 1 all-time leading scorer; South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley added another notch to her legend belt when the Gamecocks defeated the Hawkeyes in the 2024 national championship game (which was watched by a record-breaking 18.7 million viewers); and when LSU’s Angel Reese announced that she was foregoing her final year of college eligibility to enter the WNBA, she did so right here, with Vogue.
Tonight, WNBA hopefuls including Cameron Brink, Aaliyah Edwards and Dyaisha Fair arrived the draft in looks fitting of the moment. Clark opted for a white satin blazer, matching mini skirt and cropped crystal top by Prada, while Brink hit the orange carpet in a black and white cutout gown featuring a dramatic slit. Reese, meanwhile, donned a backless, hooded number by Bronx and Banco. And there was more.
