Israel launched missiles on Friday in a retaliatory strike against Iran, according to media reports.
A U.S. official confirmed to ABC News that Israeli missiles hit a site in Iran. The official couldn’t confirm whether Syria and Iraq sites were hit as well.
Israel told the U.S. on Thursday that it planned a response in 24 to 48 hours, according to a Bloomberg report, which cited two U.S. officials familiar with the matter.
Iran last week launched a missile strike against Israel in retaliation to a suspected Israeli attack on Iran’s embassy in Syria on April 1.
Oil prices climbed more than 3% with Brent crude topping $90 per barrel briefly, and West Texas Intermediate rising to almost $86 per barrel. Gold surged past $2,700, while US bond yields fell across the curve, with the 10-year yield down 10 basis points at 4.53%.
Flights were suspended in the Iranian cities of Tehran, Isfahan and Shiraz and airports across the country’s western borders, semi-official Mehr news agency reported, according to Bloomberg.
