The 8 Best Big Green Egg Accessories Worth Buying

In my household, grilling season is every season — rain or shine. I grew up with countless Webers over the years, and while I love a gas grill, I’ve come to realize there’s nothing quite like the magic of a Big Green Egg. Its versatility is unmatched: You can cook low and slow, smoke, grill, and make a pizza, among other things. You can even bake a cake in it.

When you purchase a Big Green Egg, you get, well, just that — the Egg. Then comes the fun part: Big Green Egg has made a business out of its countless accessories and attachments to offer a fully customizable experience. I’ve dabbled in nearly every branded product in the past five years, so here’s my honest review of the best accessories Big Green Egg has to offer.

Best Big Green Egg Accessories

Big Green Egg Acacia Wood Shelves

First thing first: the setup. Big Green Egg offers lots of variations when it comes to establishing your grilling space, from wooden tables to smaller, more modular systems, but for my compact setup, these collapsible shelves are the perfect space-saving solution. My Egg sits on my small balcony, so these shelves are easy to perch up when it’s time to grill. When finished, I simply fold them down and roll the Egg away, tucking it neatly into the corner.

Cast Iron Plancha Griddle

Ace Hardware

If you ask me, smash burgers are the best burgers, and this 14 by 14-inch plancha griddle transforms any Egg into the perfect flat surface. It’s also great for cooking up omelets, scrambles, pancakes, hashbrowns, and other breakfast foods. With a convenient double-sided design, I love that I can simply flip it over to the ridged side if I’m looking to sear some steak or seafood. The convenient handles make it easy to lift in and out of the grill, and there are drip wells around the edge to catch extra juices.

EGGniter Electric Charcoal Fire Starter

Ace Hardware

If you have an electricity source near your grill, this electric fire starter is a convenient way to light your Egg. Since purchasing it, I haven’t had to worry about keeping fire starters around, and it quickly lights charcoal in just a few minutes.

Stainless Steel Fire Bowl

When it comes time to clean up the used charcoal and ash, this fire bowl has changed the game. Before purchasing, I would have to painstakingly remove the ash from the small opening at the base of the egg, but with this, I simply place the charcoal inside when it’s time to light up. After I’m done cooking, I reach in and lift the bowl, and thanks to its colander-like design, all of the ash comes out quickly and efficiently.

Cast Iron Half Grid

Ace Hardware

When I want to grill up a steak that will impress, I turn to this cast iron half grid. It’s 8.75-inches wide, so it fits over half of the Egg, creating the ideal stage for steaks, seafood, vegetables, and more. A Big Green Egg’s main draw is, of course, its high heat capabilities, and the cast iron grid is the perfect way to ensure a truly excellent sear.

Ceramic Natural Pizza Stone

Ace Hardware

Unfortunately, I don’t have the space for an Ooni, though I love wood-fired pizzas. So naturally, one of the first purchases after setting up my Egg was a pizza stone. Wood-fired pizzas do best at high, high temperatures, and this stone holds even heat without breaking. It’s so slim, you can even fit two of them in an egg, so you can have two pizzas ready to go at once.

Pizza Oven Wedges Sliver

Ace Hardware

But after a few trials of making pizzas with my stone, I realized I was letting out too much heat by opening and closing the lid. This convenient little product wedges directly between the lid and the bottom. Not only does it create a wood fire oven-like atmosphere by keeping your lid slightly perched open, but it also allows you to slide your peel in and out easily.

Grid Gripper

Ace Hardware

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again: The Big Green Egg gets hot. So hot that sometimes even your best oven mitts won’t do the trick. This gripper will be your best friend, protecting your hands as you handle 800°F+ grates. I always keep it around for quick and easy removal when the order’s up, and you have to get your dish out of there, stat.
