It’s Not Just Damouflage—Please Welcome Pharrell Williams to the Lego-Verse

Pharrell Williams sure knows how to keep busy. As if adding the role of artistic director at Louis Vuitton men’s to an already bursting-at-the-seams resume (that includes musician, producer, founder of the skin care line Human Race, and founder of the auction house Joopiter to name but a few of his other jobs), today it was announced that he will be producing an autobiographical animated film titled Piece by Piece, set in the Lego-verse. Williams is no stranger to the silver screen (he’s previously produced the Academy Award-winning song “Happy” for Despicable Me 2 and worked as a producer for Hidden Figures), but this marks the first time he’ll be producing a movie about himself.

On Instagram, where Williams shared the news with a poster for the movie, the Lego version of him is shown wearing the same Louis Vuitton damouflage cap and suit he sported at his debut Vuitton collection in June of last year. While many luxury brands have been crossing over to the animated side for some time now—Loewe’s collaboration with Studio Ghibli, and Gucci’s Donald Duck collection come to mind—this is the first time that a luxury brand will be taking on a starring role in an animated motion picture (though it likely won’t be the last, given that Kering acquired CAA earlier this year). With Barbie having taken 2023 by storm, we’ll be watching to see if Lego will rule in 2024.
