One of New York’s longest-running holiday traditions has been Susanne Bartsch and David Barton’s toy drive, and Thursday night’s edition brought out the club kids, fitness buffs, and nightlife fixtures for another night of merry revelry.
The duo teamed up with co-hosts Marc Jacobs, Char Defrancesco, Sandra Bernhard, Joey Arias, Richie Shazam, Steven Klein, and Christian Cowan this year and threw the annual shindig at Barton’s newly opened GYM U in Chelsea, which was transformed into a clubby playground with music by W. Jeremy and Tommie Sunshine.
In true Barton fashion, the evening’s holiday festivities took a twisted, campy turn complete with over-the-top costumes, half-naked nutcrackers, and sexy Santas. Sam Smith, Meredith Marks, Girffin Maxwell Brooks, Gabi DeMartino, Brad Mondo, DuPont Twins, CT Hedden, and more turned out for the late-night bash well after the city’s office holiday parties wrapped up.
“It’s really fantastic to be able to bring the community together,” Bartsch, who was dressed like a bow-wrapped reindeer, tells Vogue. As is tradition every year, each guest had to bring an unwrapped toy for party admission. “The fun of going to shop for toys—a lot of people don’t have children, and before we had a child I didn’t realize how much shopping is for kids.”
Upon entering the space, volunteers were busy sorting through and wrapping up the gifted toys, all of which will be donated to children’s charities across the nation. Under several Christmas trees were Marc Jacobs’ signature shopping bags stuffed with toys ready to be donated. And as for Barton and Bartsch’s holiday plans? “Buying gifts for our son and family time!”
