Full STEAM Ahead! WonderWorks Orlando Celebrates National STEM Day with Interactive Labs and Marine Biology Career Focus

ORLANDO, Florida – (November 6, 2023) – WonderWorks Orlando invites science fans to celebrate National STEM Day on November 8, 2023. Guests will be treated to various science demonstrations throughout the facility, and they can take a deep dive into the career of a marine biologist by stopping by a brand-new version of WonderWorks’ “I Think, Therefore I STEM” exhibit. WonderWorks has teamed up with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and SeaWorld to bring this interactive, educational display to life.

“Part of the WonderWorks mission is inspiring the next generation of scientists and leaders, so offerings like National STEM Day and our rotating STEM exhibit are some of our favorites to share with guests,” says Brian Wayne, general manager at WonderWorks Orlando. “We’re honored to work with trailblazing organizations like SeaWorld and NOAA to highlight the wonderful world of STEM.”

WonderWorks aims to provide visitors of all ages a chance to explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM/STEM) themes, which are crucial to understanding our universe. On National STEM Day, the WonderWorks team will be hosting exciting science labs throughout the day, focusing on topics such as insulation, density, buoyancy, and origami. These experiments are a great way for guests to get up close and personal with all things STEM. The Blubber Glove experiment is a WonderWorks favorite, demonstrating how marine mammals stay warm in cold water temperatures. Guests can channel their inner marine biologist to examine and experience insulation in action at this interactive lab.

The newly upgraded “I Think Therefore I STEM” exhibit will also be unveiled in the days leading up to National STEM Day. This exhibit will put marine biologists in the spotlight so guests can learn more about what they do, how to become one, and the vital role they play in conservation. This new exhibit and the STEM Day demonstrations are included with regular admission tickets, ensuring an exciting day for science lovers of all ages.

“Empowering young minds to pursue STEM careers such as marine biology is essential for our world’s future. By fostering a love for marine science in the younger generations, we are cultivating the stewards our oceans and marine life need. Every budding marine biologist represents a potential solution to the challenges our seas face, from climate change to conservation. Their curiosity, dedication, and passion hold the key to safeguarding the deep and the incredible creatures that call it home”, explains Dr. Joseph Gaspard, vice president of Zoological Operations at SeaWorld Orlando.

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a marine biologist is a scientist who studies life in the sea. WonderWorks has been working hard to highlight this fascinating career, bringing in the expertise of NOAA and SeaWorld’s zoological department.

WonderWorks Orlando is proud to offer various STEM programs throughout the year, including a youth art contest, student achievement awards, event partnerships, educational field trips, and more. They have over 100 interactive exhibits that guests can engage in, focusing on extreme weather conditions, space exploration, pressure, sound, and much more. There are also several activities that encourage families to engage in physical challenges including laser tag, a glow-in-the-dark ropes course, and more. Guests looking to enhance their experience even more should consider purchasing tickets to the hilarious nightly magic dinner show.
