Ford will issue a recall of an estimated 456,565 vehicles because of a low battery issue that can result is loss of drive power, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall applies to certain Ford Bronco Sport SUVs, manufactured between 2021 and 2024, and certain Ford Maverick vehicles, manufactured in 2022 and 2023.
According to a notice posted April 12, an undetected low battery charge can lead to a loss in electrical accessories, including hazard lights, or loss of drive power, “increasing the risk of a crash,” NHTSA said.
Notification letters to the owners of the recalled vehicles are expected to be mailed on May 13, the NHTSA said. To fix the issue, dealers will recalibrate the body control module and power train control module, free of charge.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of our customers,” a Ford spokesperson told The Hill.
Owners of the recalled vehicles will receive a software update at no cost, the spokesperson said. “Safety is a top priority, and we are taking proactive measures to address this issue promptly and effectively.”
The NHTSA campaign number is 24V267000.
