White House ‘Nutcracker’ holiday video draws mixed reviews

First lady Jill Biden released a video of Dorrance Dance members performing their interpretation of “The Nutcracker Suite,” and it has drawn mixed reviews.

“A bit of magic, wonder, and joy brought to you by the talented tappers of Dorrance Dance, performing their playful interpretation of The Nutcracker Suite. Enjoy!” Biden wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The video features performers from the New York based dance company tap dancing around the halls of the White House. Performers were dressed to represent characters from “The Nutcracker,” a classic holiday ballet.

The first lady’s video went viral on multiple social media platforms. While it received positive remarks, several users criticized the performance.

One user said it is “a mentally ill Christmas at the Biden White House.” Another user said the video should have “come with a sensitivity label” and that it is “horrendous.”

Several others called the video “woke,” “cringe” and “dystopian.”

Biden drew criticism for using tax dollars on the performance, even though it is customary for a first lady to decorate the White House and celebrate the holiday season.

Releasing the video and decorating the White House are only part of the holiday traditions going on. Biden welcomed the White House Christmas tree at the end of November.

Alongside her husband, President Biden, she participated in the annual tradition of lighting the Christmas tree in an area known as President’s Park, on the south side of the White House.
