Kate Middleton and Prince William’s Couple Style? Matching Sloane Ranger ‘Fits

It might be a bit lowbrow to say that Prince William and Kate Middleton were “twinning” today during a visit to Moray, Scotland. (The slang most often used to describe similar outfits two best friends coincidentally wear to brunch feels, well, weird when applied to the future King and Queen of England.) But twin the Prince and Princess of Wales did: they walked in lockstep through the misty Scottish fog wearing hunter green jackets, navy pants, and brown boots, both physically and sartorially in sync with their Sloane Ranger-esque looks. (Essentially, the British version of “prep”.) Sure, there were some slight differences—Middleton’s plaid jacket was quilted by Burberry, whereas Prince William’s monotone technical, water-repellant look came from Suit Supply—but the sameness of it all was undeniable.

One doesn’t need to dig too deep into a visual analysis: by dressing in a de-facto uniform, William and Kate subtly show they are on the same team, a united front. While Justin Bieber dons sweatpants and crocs as Hailey Bieber rocks a red mini dress and stilettos to allow his wife to take center stage—”It was Hailey’s day. He’s there to support his wife, period,” BFF pro surfer Kelia Moniz told GQ of the polar-opposite look—William and Kate are showing they are a joint duo taking on a task together.

It’s something the royal couple does often. The day after release of Prince Harry’s bombshell memoir Spare, which included allegations that his older brother physically assaulted him, the Walses appeared in color-coordinated outfits with smiles plastered on their faces. Meanwhile, they have a penchant for dressing their entire family in blue for highly-publicized occasions . . . a color that denotes calmness, stability, and is also part of the Union Jack flag.

Although their couple’s style is stoic, it’s not always necessarily static: Kate Middleton, for example, ditched her tried-and-true skinny-jeans for an au currant kick flare. Even the royals, it seems, have to keep up with fashion trends.
