I Bring This Jacobsen Salt Tin With Me Everywhere—Here’s Why

I’ll be the first to admit it: I am a salt snob. “It was good, but it needed salt,” is likely one of the most common critiques you’ll hear me utter after dining out. For me, eating a meal without the right level of salt is like being at the beach on a cloudy day — still nice, but a bit of a let down. So, the day I decided to stuff this Jacobsen salt tin in my purse was the day my world changed.

I take this $6 tin with me literally everywhere. So much so that it has become my personal emotional support seasoning. I whip it out to season meals way more often than I care to admit, usually hoping no one sees me actually use it. Not only is it just a convenient little pack to have, but the salt is the perfect granule size and has the perfect level of saltiness to top my meal. I couldn’t go without it, and if you’re anything like me, you shouldn’t either.

This salt tin is the perfect on-the-go seasoning pack. It’s not big at all, measuring 2.25 by 1.6 inches, yet still holds a ton of salt. I’ve had mine for months and only just started making a dent. Jacobsen Salt Co. is known for its salts, and what’s inside this tin is truly something special.

It’s the brand’s Oregan-derived sea salt, which is harvested on Netarts Bay. Because it is sea salt, it’s a little saltier than the kosher salt I am using in my kitchen every day (and better than what’s on the table at a restaurant). I prefer this, because it takes less to finish a dish when I’m out — just a little sprinkle is all you need. It is characteristically briney and a little tangy, so I love what it adds to simple dishes. The granules are fine for even distribution, but still fairly flakey, so they never overpower a bite (unless I want it to).

I’ve most recently used it to finish big, warm chocolate cookies, to top a big fluffy focaccia with stracciatella and tomato sauce, and to amp up some simple bread and butter. I love that the tin fits right into my palm, so I know I can hide it if I’m trying to be just a little discreet. The tin slides open too, which makes it easy to grab a pinch quickly. And it never leaks on me, so I can throw it in and around my purse without worry.

This really is the on-the-go salt of my dreams, thanks to its perfect tang, its versatile granule size, and its compact design. Buy one tin now for just $6, or, if you’re anything like me, grab the 15-pack so you always have a salt tin on hand.
