Double Tragus Piercing Trend | POPSUGAR Beauty

“Make it a double” was a phrase most often reserved for your local bartender (and preferably in regard to tequila, please and thanks). Now, it’s on heavy rotation at the piercing parlor, especially for the tragus part of your ear. Alcohol need not apply.

To recap, “A tragus piercing is an ear-cartilage piercing located on the protuberance that covers the entry to the inner ear,” Jef Saunders, cofounder of Gamma Piercing and coauthor of “The Piercing Bible”, previously told POPSUGAR. “The technical name for the tissue is actually tragus, which comes from the ancient Greek ‘tragos,’ meaning goat.”

This type of piercing is similar to other cartilage piercings as it takes a lengthy time to heal — months, at the least — and it also needs to be cared for with close attention to detail. Getting the area pierced is nothing new — everyone from Rihanna to Lucy Hale to Scarlett Johansson (and just about every rebel in high school) has tried it at one point or another — but doubling down on the look with two pieces of jewelry is the modern update you never knew you needed.

What Is a Double Tragus Piercing?

So, what is a double tragus piercing and how does it differ from the standard version we know and love? A double tragus piercing features two separate holes rather than just one. The two piercings typically line up so one sits on top of the other, and the addition of the second hole allows for more experimentation with jewelry. If you opt for a double versus a single, you’ll want to make sure you speak to your piercer about correctly spacing the two holes.
