DeSantis ‘won’t accept’ being Haley’s running mate ‘under any circumstances’

Republican Presidential candidate Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) said he would not accept being fellow candidate Nikki Haley’s running mate “under any circumstances.”

“Well, I can tell you, I am not going to accept that under any circumstances,” DeSantis told Fox News’ Neil Cavuto on Saturday. “You know, I’m running for president because I think we need somebody that can win and get the job done.”

“I would much rather do my final two years as governor, 2025 and 26, than be vice president,” he continued. “I don’t think it’s a position that offers much, I want to make an impact.”

In a recent interview, Haley, the former United Nations ambassador, didn’t close the door to joining forces with DeSantis for the election, saying she would “maybe” consider the Florida governor to be her vice president, adding that she is focused on defeating the GOP front-runner former President Trump.

DeSantis has jumped on rumors that Trump could be considering having Haley join his ticket.

“I do think though, it’s interesting, she refuses to rule out whether she would be Donald Trump’s running mate if Trump were to be the nominee and that’s, I think, important because she’s really catered to a lot of Democrat donors, Democrat-leaning voters, a lot of people that are basically very anti-Trump and have actually donated a lot of money in the media to oppose Donald Trump,” DeSantis argued.

The Florida Governor said Haley has positioned herself to be an anti-Trump vessel to a lot of people yet will “not rule this out.”

“So the question is, why can’t she just give a straight answer? Either yes, you would accept, or no, you would not. But instead, we get the typical politician speak,” DeSantis said. “I’ve said definitively, no, that’s not what I’m running for and we’re in it to win it.”

DeSantis and Haley are set to take the debate stage on Wed. Jan. 10 ahead of the Iowa caucuses.
