Brie Larson embraced an esoteric approach to dressing at the 2024 Met Gala. With a helping hand from Prada, the actor leaned into the latter part of the “Garden of Time” dress code, and used her look to represent the passage of time.
“We wanted to lean into the visual representations that mark the passing of time,” Larson says of her collaboration with the Italian house. “Sand falling through an hourglass, the changing colors of a golden hour sunset, and the dress itself is made through the dedication of the atelier—giving their time to this craft.”
In homage to the exhibit’s ethos of finding new ways to engage with old clothing, Prada found inspiration for Larson’s look by referencing their own archives. The under-layer of her look was a nod to the orange and beige gradient from the fall 2007 collection. The pencil dress was embroidered with crystals that offer a gilded interpretation on the sands of time. In addition to honoring Prada collections of yore, Larson’s dress offered a more literal interpretation, too. Over her archive-inspired dress was a stiff, but diaphanous layer of lilac crinoline in the shape of an hourglass—a nod to the fall 2024 collection.
