Boebert on Speaker Johnson: ‘We need leadership’

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Col.) jabbed House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) amid mounting conservative criticism over his negotiations with Democrats on spending measures.

“I don’t want to get there, but we need leadership,” Boebert said during an appearance Thursday on Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast. “We have to have some follow-through on the promises that we have made to the American people.”

Boebert was among a handful of conservatives who led a charge to oust former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) last year.

Johnson is facing similar pressure from some Republicans who have floated the possibility of introducing a motion to vacate against him over deals Johnson has struck with Democrats.

Bannon, an influential voice among GOPers loyal to former President Trump, suggested earlier this week that Johnson is “not savable,” and is not doing enough to achieve the priorities of conservatives.

“It’s not worth it,” the former Trump adviser said. “It’s time to look for the next man up because this is gonna continue.”

Boebert’s comments come as she faces a potentially challenging path to reelection. Though first elected to the 4th Congressional District in Colorado, the divisive congresswoman switched to the 5th district recently amid a formidable challenge from Democrat Adam Frisch, who came close to unseating her in 2022.

But there are warning signs for her in the 4th district, too. She came in fifth in a recent straw poll taken among voters there.
