Florida has a lot to offer travelers, especially when it comes to natural beauty. In addition to its natural attractiveness, Florida has a vibrant nightlife, and cities such as Miami, Orlando, and Tampa are known for their lively entertainment areas.

Florida is also one of the few states with a wide variety of animal species. From bears to alligators, and snakes, Florida is home to a huge range of creatures, big and small – it has it all.

Having lived in Florida for 13 years, and visited every summer before that, I’ve traveled this great state widely and seen a lot of all it has to offer. I know so much about the Sunshine State, and I’m happy to be able to share my knowledge with you so you create the best Florida itinerary.

Florida Itinerary Quick Rundown

Florida is an incredible state that offers a wide array of attractions and activities for visitors to enjoy. Whether you’ve just a weekend to stay or a full two weeks to explore, there’s something for everyone in this incredible state.

Here’s a quick rundown of how to best spend your time in Florida. It doesn’t matter if you plan on visiting for two days to two weeks, this guide will help you plan every moment of your trip.

Weekend in Florida Itinerary: A weekend in Florida is enough time to explore one of the charming small towns the state has to offer. I recommend visiting Mount Dora and checking out Lake Dora, the Mount Dora History Museum, and dining out at the Goblin Market.

5-Day Itinerary: I think it’s best to spend 5 days in Florida in Key West. This 5-day itinerary includes museums like the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, a butterfly conservatory, and great places to gorge on delicious local seafood.

One Week in Florida Itinerary: One week in Florida is ideal for exploring Miami and all the vibrant city has to offer. The one-week Florida itinerary for Miami has you visiting museums such as the Miami Children’s Museum and dining at establishments that serve amazing Cuban cuisine.

10-Day Itinerary: If you plan on spending 10 days in Florida, I think it’s best to use your time to visit the central Florida theme parks. Spend eight days at Walt Disney World before driving to Universal Studios to continue the fun.

2 Weeks in Florida Itinerary: If you have 2 weeks in Florida, I think exploring north Florida and all it has to offer is a great idea. Jacksonville and St. Augustine have so much to offer, including markets, museums, monuments, and some stunning beaches.

Day 1

Mount Dora is a great place to visit for a weekend in Florida. Luckily, everything in Mount Dora is within walking distance so you won’t need a car to get around. The area has an abundance of bed and breakfasts to choose from and I recommend finding one, checking in, and then getting on with exploring this beautiful city.

Whenever I visit Mount Dora I love to take in the natural surroundings. The city is nestled on the shores of Lake Dora and offers scenic hiking trails. In addition to Lake Dora, Lake Apopka is nearby and I recommend walking the Lake Apopka Wildlife Trail.

After hiking the trails, stop for a refreshing ice-cold drink at Maw’s Mountain Moonshine, a family-owned distillery in Mount Dora. My favorite part about Maw’s Mountain Moonshine is you can enjoy live music as you sip on your beverage and rest your tired legs.

Day 2

Once you’ve woken up and eaten at your bed and breakfast, it’s time to start exploring the rich culture and history Mount Dora has to offer. Your first stop will be the Mount Dora History Museum, which showcases the city’s interesting past.

For dinner, head to the famous Goblin Market. The Goblin Market is housed in a historic building and offers a fun dining experience. They’re famous for their seared scallops and steaks but I always order one of their gourmet burgers whenever I eat there.

5-Day Florida Itinerary (Sunsets, Butterflies & Treasure )

A five-day Florida itinerary is perfect for anyone looking to explore the Key West and all the beautiful Island has to offer. Visiting Key West is a perfect idea for travelers who are visiting for less than a week, and still want to see the best of Florida.

You’ll eat at amazing local restaurants, experience sunsets like no other, and learn about the history of this amazing island.

Day 1

If you plan on following this 5-day Florida itinerary, you’ll want to drive south from Miami to Key West. Luckily, once you get there you can park your car at the hotel and leave it there. Key West is a small island and many people utilize the Old Town Trolley which stops at all the major attractions and landmarks.

After settling into your accommodation, take the trolley to the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum where you can explore the home the writer once lived in. My favorite part of the museum is the fact that six-toed cats roam the property!

Day 2

Start your day by visiting the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory and take a walk among the hundreds of free-flying butterflies. There are also exotic birds and two flamingos inside the butterfly habitat.

Once you’ve finished at the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory, visit the Key West Shipwreck and Treasure Museum. At this museum, you’ll learn all about Key West’s rich maritime history. Before heading back to your accommodation, take a leisurely stroll along Mallory Square and grab a bite to eat.

Day 3

Discover the art, history, and culture of Key West at the Key West Art and Historical Society’s Custom House Museum. For lunch, try DJ’s Clam Shack, known for its fresh and delicious seafood dishes.

Once you’ve finished eating, take the trolley to the Key West Lighthouse and Keeper’s Quarter Museum where you can climb to the top of the lighthouse to learn about the life of the lighthouse keeper. Once at the top, you’ll be able to see Key West from a perspective like no other – it’s truly breathtaking.

Day 4

Begin your morning with a parasailing ride out over the ocean. When hunger strikes, head over to Santiago’s Bodega which is a tapas restaurant featuring an impressive, extensive wine list.

Once you finish eating, take a diving or snorkeling trip to explore the coral reefs surrounding the island. In the afternoon, check out the Key West Art Center and Gallery where you can admire the work of local artists and even buy a piece to take home as a souvenir.

Day 5

After a good night’s sleep, walk to the Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden. Here, you’ll be able to explore the beautiful gardens and learn about the different plant species and animals native to Key West.

When you finish with lunch, rent a bike from one of the many vendors in the area, and pedal over to Overseas Heritage Trail. In the late afternoon take the trolley to the Key West Museum of Art and History at the Custom House.

7-Day Florida Itinerary (Museums, Park’s & Nightlife )

Visiting Miami for a seven-day trip to Florida is a great idea. This vibrant city offers a ton of attractions and activities that are sure to make your trip one for the books.

Day 1

First things first, you’ll need to rent a vehicle to get around. Begin your first day in Miami by heading to the Perez Art Museum Miami, otherwise known as PAMM, which features a variety of international and contemporary art.

Head to South Beach and spend the rest of the afternoon soaking up the sunshine on the stunning beaches. Once the sun starts to set, take a stroll along Ocean Drive. This area is known for its art-deco-style buildings and energetic atmosphere; just walking around and taking in the surroundings is an activity in itself.

Day 2

Spend your morning visiting the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens – a beautiful European-style villa. Once inside, you can explore the rooms filled with art and antique furniture. After exploring within the walls, take a stroll through the well-manicured gardens.

In the afternoon, head over to Key Biscayne and spend the day at Crandon Park. The open space offers benches to relax with a book, nature trails, and even a golf course.

At night, drive on over to Wynwood Walls, an outdoor art museum. Admission costs $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and children are free.

Day 3

I’m someone who loves fashion, so whenever I visit Miami I love to begin my day by visiting the Miami Design District. This neighborhood is known for its high-end shops, art galleries, and designer showrooms.

When you finish exploring the Miami Design District, go and spend your afternoon at Matheson Hammock Park. What makes Matheson Hammock Park stand out from all the others is its man-made pool where you can rent a paddle board.

Day 4

On your fourth day in Miami, spend the morning at the Frost Museum of Science. The Frost Museum of Science is a state-of-the-art museum located in downtown Miami. If you plan on driving to the Frost Museum beware of the $18 parking fee.

After absorbing all the museum has to offer, drive over to Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. Here, you can take a stroll along the scenic nature trails. When I visited Miami and went to Bill Baggs Park, I climbed to the top of the historic Cape Florida Lighthouse and relaxed on the beaches.

Day 5

Drive to the HistoryMiami Museum, the city’s finest history museum. At this museum, you’ll learn about Miami’s cultural heritage through exhibits that showcase the city’s diversity and influences. The cost of an adult ticket is $15.00 and children are free to enter.

Spend your afternoon at Maximo Gomez Park otherwise known as Domino Park, in Little Havana. It doesn’t matter what time of day you visit Domino Park, you’ll find a group of people there, drinking their Cuban coffee, playing domino, and chatting with friends.

Day 6

Visiting the Miami Children’s Museum is a great thing to do in Miami with kids. The Miami Children’s Museum offers hands-on, interactive exhibits and also has outdoor play areas and educational programs.

After spending your morning at the children’s museum, drive over to Oleta River State Park – the largest urban park in Florida. While here, you’ll have the opportunity to go kayaking or paddle boarding through the water or rent a bike to explore the numerous trails.

Day 7

On your final day in Miami, you’ll want to start your day by visiting the Museum of Contemporary Art, located in North Miami. At this museum, you’ll explore thought-provoking art exhibitions and installations by emerging and established artists.

Spend your last afternoon at Bal Harbor Beach. This spot is known for its powder-white sand and crystal-clear water. I recommend relaxing on the beach, taking a swim, or indulging in some retail therapy at the nearby Bal Harbor Shops.

10-Day Florida Itinerary (Princess’s, Wizards & Waterparks)

A ten-day Florida itinerary is perfect for exploring the wonders of Central Florida’s theme parks. With so much to see and do at Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, adventure and excitement await at every turn.

Day 1

Start your magical day by visiting the Magic Kingdom. I recommend arriving early to beat the crowds. Ride iconic attractions such as Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, and It’s a Small World.

Make sure to stop and get something to eat at one of the many amazing restaurants – there’s so much to choose from, it’s a foodie’s haven. Don’t miss grabbing a seat for the Festival of Fantasy Parade which currently runs twice daily at noon and 3:00 PM.

At the end of the day, find a spot to watch the magnificent firework show Happily Ever After. In my opinion, the best place to view Happily Ever After is near Cinderella’s Castle.

Day 2

Begin your second day of your 10-day Florida itinerary at Epcot. Start your morning in Future World where you can visit attractions like Spaceship Earth, Test Track, Soarin, and Mission Space.

After spending the morning exploring Future World, walk over to the World Showcase where you’ll find 11 pavilions to sample international food and drinks.

At 9:00 PM find a seat to watch the stunning firework spectacular, Epcot Forever. This show uses pyrotechnics and music to tell a story in the sky. Out of all the firework shows in Disney World, Epcot Forever is my favorite.

Day 3

On day 3 of your itinerary, visit Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom theme park. Start with the thrilling Expedition Everest roller coaster and then explore the immersive Pandora – The World of Avatar.

Eat lunch at Flame Tree Barbecue, one of the best quick-service restaurants in Disney World. After lunch, take a short walk to the Festival of the Lion King show. This show is thirty minutes long and runs every hour.

Day 4

Make your way to Hollywood Studios and join the Resistance on Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and fly the Millennium Falcon on Smuggler’s Run. Afterward, explore Toy Story Land and ride the thrilling Slinky Dog Dash roller coaster.

Don’t miss the chance to meet your favorite Disney characters and watch live shows such as Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. End your day with the spectacular Fantasmic! show. This nighttime extravaganza features fireworks, water projections, and beloved Disney characters.

Day 5

Visit Disney Springs, a shopping and dining complex. Explore the wide variety of stores and enjoy a delicious breakfast at one of the many restaurants. I recommend grabbing brunch at House of Blues and ordering the avocado toast – it’s the best way to set you up for the day.

Take a break from the parks and relax by the pool at your Disney Resort hotel. Enjoy the amenities and recharge for the remaining days of your trip.

Treat yourself to a delicious dinner at one of the many fine dining options at Disney Springs, such as the Boathouse before catching a live performance at one of the entertainment venues.

Day 6

On the 6th day of your trip, I recommend returning to Magic Kingdom to revisit your favorite attractions. This will allow you to relive those magical moments and immerse yourself in the enchanting atmosphere once again.

Enjoy a character dining experience and have lunch with your favorite Disney characters. Don’t forget to take plenty of pictures to capture these magical moments. My favorite character dining experience at the Magic Kingdom is Crystal Palace, a buffet featuring Winnie the Pooh and friends.

End your day with the enchanting Once Upon a Time projection show. This spectacle takes place at Cinderella Castle, where the magic of Disney comes to life through a mesmerizing display of dazzling lights and iconic scenes.

Day 7

Return to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and make sure to experience any attractions or shows you may have missed earlier in your trip. Make sure to check out It’s Tough to be a Bug, a 3-D show that plays in the Tree of Life.

After seeing It’s Tough to be a Bug, meet Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and more familiar faces while you eat lunch at Tusker House, a character dining experience. Then, head over to Dino-land and ride the thrilling Dinosaur!

End your incredible journey with the magical Tree of Life Awakenings. Watch as the iconic Tree of Life literally ‘comes to life’ with beautiful projections, bringing your Disney adventure to a close.

Day 8

After checking out of your Walt Disney World hotel, drive over to Universal Studios where you can begin with a visit to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade. Explore the iconic Hogwarts Castle and enjoy thrilling rides such as Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.

Continue your morning with a visit to Transformers: The Ride 3D – an immersive 3D experience that puts you in the middle of an epic battle between the Autobots and Decepticons. Don’t miss the opportunity to ride Revenge of the Mummy – it’s one for the brave and is a high-speed roller coaster with special effects.

Day 9

Start your second day at Universal Studios by exploring The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley at Islands of Adventure. Immerse yourself in the magical world of Harry Potter as you visit famous locations such as Gringotts Bank and Ollivanders Wand Shop.

Spend the afternoon exploring more of the park’s attractions, including the thrilling roller coasters, The Incredible Hulk Coaster, and the Velocicoaster. My favorite ride in Islands of Adventure is The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman.

Finally, grab a spot to catch the nightly show, The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle, which is a stunning projection display featuring the magical world of Harry Potter.

Day 10

Visit Volcano Bay, a thrilling theme park at Universal Studios. Explore the various attractions and rides at Volcano Bay, such as the Krakatau Aqua Coaster, Waturi Beach, and the TeAwa The Fearless River. Enjoy the tropical paradise atmosphere as you bask in the sun and cool off in the refreshing waters.

If you need a break from the water, relax in one of the cabanas available for rent. These private retreats offer a place to unwind and recharge before diving back into the excitement. As the day comes to an end, head over to City Walk, an entertainment district located adjacent to Universal Orlando Resort.

Enjoy a delicious dinner at one of the many restaurants, offering a variety of cuisines to satisfy any craving. From American classics to international delights, there’s a dining option for everyone and even the fussiest of eaters will be happy. Out of all the restaurants on City Walk, my favorite place to eat is Big Fire. Make sure you order the s’mores dessert!

14-Day Florida Itinerary (Culture, History & Pirates)

There’s so much to see and do in North Florida, specifically in Jacksonville, Amelia Island, and St. Augustine. These three destinations offer a wide range of attractions and activities that cater to various interests and preferences.

Day 1

The Riverside Art’s Market, located under the canopy of the Fuller Warren Bridge, showcases the excellent work of local artists, craftsmen, and musicians. This market also offers a variety of food vendors, selling delicious treats that cater to all tastes. My favorite part about visiting this place is the fact that live music fills the air, creating a fun ambiance, as you wander around.

Next on your list of things to do on your 10-day Florida itinerary is a visit to the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens. This museum showcases an impressive collection of artworks spanning thousands of years.

After a day of exploring, treat yourself to a memorable dining experience at Restaurant Orsay. Nestled in the historic Avondale neighborhood, this upscale restaurant combines French cuisine with Southern charm.

Day 2

Start your day at Jacksonville Beach. This beach offers a wide variety of activities, including swimming, surfing, and paddleboarding. There are plenty of rental shops and instructors in the area if you’re a newbie to water sports.

After working up an appetite, head over to Safe Harbor Seafood Market & Restaurant for a delectable seafood lunch. This local gem is renowned for its fresh catches and mouthwatering dishes.

Wind down your day by taking a leisurely stroll along the beach. Watch the beautiful sunset while you grab a drink at one of the many waterfront bars and restaurants.

Day 3

Amelia Island is just a short drive away from Jacksonville and makes for the perfect day trip on your 10-day Florida itinerary. Start your day at Fort Clinch State Park, a well-preserved 19th-century fort. Explore the fort’s various rooms, including the soldier’s quarters and the blacksmith shop.

After you’ve visited the park, head to Fernandina Beach, the charming historic district of Amelia Island. This quaint town is known for its well-preserved Victorian architecture, boutique shops, and delicious dining options.

In addition to shopping and dining, Fernandina Beach offers other attractions worth exploring. Amelia Island Museum of History is a must-visit for history enthusiasts, showcasing the island’s rich heritage through exhibits and artifacts.

Day 4

Start your day in Jacksonville by visiting the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville. Located in the heart of downtown, this museum showcases a wide range of modern and contemporary art.

Next, head over to the Jacksonville Museum of Science and History. At this museum, you’ll engage in hands-on exhibits, learn about the ecosystem, and discover the rich heritage of the city of Jacksonville and surrounding areas.

For a delightful dining experience, make your way to BB’s Restaurant and Bar. Indulge in a delicious dinner while enjoying the cozy ambiance of this popular eatery. BB’s offers a diverse menu with a wide selection of appetizers, entrees, and beverages.

Day 5

Start your day by going for a hike at the Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens. This beautiful natural area offers over 2 miles of trails, winding through lush gardens and peaceful woodlands.

After your hike, take a short drive to the Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail. Rent bikes and embark on an exciting adventure along this 14.5-mile trail. The trail follows the historic rail line and offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Return the bikes and head to Town Hall for dinner. This charming restaurant offers a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, with a menu featuring a variety of delicious dishes. When dining at Town Hall I recommend ordering the ‘loaded’ fries, (they’re appropriately named, make sure you’re hungry!).

Day 6

Attend a Jacksonville Jaguar football game at the TIAA Bank Field and cheer on the home team as they compete against rival players. There is nothing like enjoying the game while immersing yourself in the excitement of the local fans.

After the game ends, head over to TPC Sawgrass, one of the most prestigious golf courses in the world. While you play the game, take in the scenery with its lush greenery and picturesque water hazards.

For dinner, reserve a table at Cowford Chophouse, a popular steakhouse in downtown Jacksonville. Make sure to pair your meal with a selection from their extensive wine list, featuring both local and international options.

Day 7

The Museum of Southern History in Jacksonville, Florida is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts. This museum showcases the rich history and culture of the Southern United States. From the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement, the museum offers a look into the area’s past.

Once you’ve finished at the museum, visit the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve where you can hike through a choice of many various trails. This preserve is also home to some archaeological sites, including the historic Fort Caroline.

When it comes to mouthwatering barbecue, The Bearded Pig BBQ in Jacksonville, Florida is the place to be. This local hotspot offers a wide range of smoked meats and delicious sides that will satisfy even the most discerning barbecue connoisseur.

Day 8

After taking the short one-hour drive on 1-95 South to St Augustine, start your day by exploring the Historic District. Walking along St. George Street you’ll find charming shops, colonial-era architecture, and quaint cobblestone streets.

Explore the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument and take in its impressive architecture and the breathtaking views of the Matanzas River. Make sure to take a guided tour to appreciate the significance of this historical landmark fully.

For a nighttime activity, take a scenic cruise along the coast of St. Augustine. As you sail, make sure to keep an eye out for dolphins and sea turtles. You’ll also learn about the area’s history and ecology from your guide.

Day 9

Begin your morning by visiting the Lightner Museum located inside the historic Alcazar Hotel. Once inside, you can explore the museum’s massive collection of art, antiques, and historical artifacts. You’ll also hear all about the hotel’s rich history.

After the museum, take the trolley over to the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum. You’ll have to climb the 219 steps to the top of the lighthouse, but it’s worth it once you see the breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the coast.

Wrap up your day with a relaxing walk around the Flagler College campus. I recommend taking a guided tour to learn about the college’s history and its transformation from a luxury hotel to an esteemed educational institution.

Day 10

St. Augustine is known for its stunning beaches. On Day 10 of your trip, check them out. Whether you’re looking to relax under the sun, take a dip in the ocean, or take part in water sports, St Augustine Beach offers something for everyone.

After spending the day at the beach, check out the city’s award-winning winery, San Sebastian. From Monday through Saturday, San Sebastian Winery offers tours from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM. The best part of these tours is the free wine tasting.

End your day by eating at Sunset Grille, a waterfront restaurant that offers a variety of seafood dishes and cocktails alongside some spectacular views. When I ate at the Sunset Grille, I loved sitting outside on the patio and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Day 11

Whenever I travel to St. Augustine I love to visit the St. Augustine Premium Outlets – it has almost 90 stores! You can find everything from home goods to electronics, but the best part of these outlets is the amazing discounts you can get.

Another favorite place of mine to visit in St. Augustine is Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum – a weird and wonderful place where you’ll see everything from shrunken heads to stunning artwork.

After checking out the museum, take the trolley to Potter’s Wax Museum, the oldest wax museum in the United States, with over 160 wax figures to meet. There are sculptures of historical and government figures as well as celebrities.

Day 12

Begin your day by visiting the Oldest Store. This unique museum looks into the past with its’ interactive exhibits. The shelves of the Oldest Store are stocked with vintage candies and products. I love to engage with the friendly, knowledgeable staff, who dress in costumes from the time period.

Next, stop by the St. Augustine Pirate and Treasure Museum and explore the extensive collection of artifacts, authentic pirate weapons, and even a real pirate shipwreck.

Day 13

Have lunch at the Raintree Restaurant, a unique dining experience inside a Victorian home. Their menu is incredible and features cuisine from America, Europe, and the Mediterranean.

Make your way to the Old Jail, also known as the St. Augustine Old Jail Museum. This historic building served as the city’s jail from 1891 to 1953 and is now a popular tourist attraction. Take a guided tour to learn about the jail’s dark past and hear stories of its notorious inmates.

Explore the gardens and exhibits that showcase the early history of St. Augustine, including the Timucua Indian Village, a replica of a native settlement. Don’t forget to take a sip from the fountain and see if the legends hold true.
