South Carolina’s Luke Doty questionable for opener with sprained ankle

South Carolina beginning quarterback Luke Doty suffered a sprained ankle and is questionable to play within the Gamecocks’ season opener in opposition to Jap Illinois on Sept. 4.

Doty, a sophomore, began the ultimate two video games for South Carolina final season, throwing a mixed two touchdowns and two interceptions in losses to Georgia and Kentucky.

South Carolina first-year coach Shane Beamer named Doty the starter within the spring.

Beamer stated the harm to Doty wasn’t as critical as first thought and isn’t thought of season-ending.

“We are going to re-evaluate him right here in a pair weeks,” Beamer advised reporters on Saturday. “Luke is in nice spirits and optimistic he’ll have the ability to play within the first sport. If not, it will likely be quickly after that.”

With Doty sidelined in the interim, South Carolina will flip to both Colten Gauthier or Jason Brown at quarterback.
